Two years after the California-born chef Jody Williams opened Buvette, a cozy French café in the West Village, she set up a branch in Paris. That tells you quelque chose. Consistently ranked as one of the most romantic spaces in the city, Buvette is a place “where the croque monsieur feels bigger than the elfin tables it sits on,” to quote Jeff Gordinier. It is open 19 hours a day (18 on Saturdays and Sundays) and there’s very often a wait for a table. But as Phil Collins famously said, you can’t hurry love. (42 Grove St. 212-255-3590.)
