Like the Northern Lights that illuminate the sky, Franny’s brightened a corner of Brooklyn (and the city’s food scene itself) when it arrival on a darkened stretch of Flatbush Avenue, fourteen years ago. Folks flocked to it for the clam pizza, and the plain pizza. And the pizza. Did I mention the pizza? They stuck with it when it moved across the street into a larger space, in 2013. Well, stuck with it is the wrong way to put it. Three-times the size, the new location was still overrun. Alas, for whatever reason, even the brightest stars come down to earth, and Franny’s is closing on August 20. (348 Flatbush Ave, at Sterling Pl. Brooklyn 718-230-0221.)
