Shake Shack

Once upon a time, a hot-dog stand appeared in Madison Square Park. Some magic ensued, and it became Shake Shack, giving joy to throngs of office workers, lovers, and families with strollers (as well as financial support to the park itself.) But the fairy tale did not end there. Shake Shack, which opened in 2004, is now a publically-traded company with outposts around the world and hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue. Talk about happily ever after. (Southeast corner of Madison Square Park, near Madison Ave and E. 23rd St. 212.889.6600.)
