A favorite of West Village residents and members of the literary set, Café Loup is a classic neighborhood bistro. Brassai’s photos of Paris from the thirties are on the walls and escargots, duck-leg confit, lamb, and a variety of fish are on the menu. Before his death, last year, the saxophonist Bob Kindred and his trio long held court at Sunday brunch and the pianist Junior Mance and his group used to be in residence on Sunday nights. Still, there is jazz once or twice weekly, and Café Loup remains a quite a comfortable place when you need a sophisticated break. (105 W. 13th St. 212-255-4746.)
