Diner food is all about comfort, and few folks know that better than the owners of Tom’s Restaurant. They not only serve such soul-warming fare as lemon-ricotta pancakes, omelets, and home fries to the faithful seated inside, they hand out slices of orange, cups of coffee, and slices of sausage to those waiting on line to get in. And those lines are almost as famous as the place itself, which has been a Brooklyn fixture since 1936. (782 Washington Avenue, Brooklyn. 718-636-9738.)
