The chef Michael White’s luxurious take on French food has a special place in my heart, but not because I’ve eaten there. I did this drawing one evening after a gathering for the late, great New Yorker cartoonist Jack Ziegler. At the memorial, I caught up all kinds of old friends and hung out with folks I never thought I’d see again, from the time when I, too, briefly had New Yorker cartoons published. What does this have to do with Vaucluse? Nothing, but the restaurant happens to be down the block from the Society of Illustrators, where the service was held. I don’t know if I’ll ever get back to Vaucluse, but I can always visit JackZiegler.com. (100 E. 63rd St. 646-869-2300.)
