Frankies 457 Spuntino

The little neighborhood-joint that could, Frankies 457 Spuntino, opened in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, in 2004. The founders, two childhood friends from Queens, Frank Castronovo and Frank Falcinelli, went on to start multiple restaurants, launch retail brands, and publish a cookbook. But it all began here, with dreamy Italian food—“house-made pastas,” “handcrafted” soups, and “classics,” like meatballs with pine nuts and raisins—served in an even dreamier setting. Part of it is a converted blacksmith stable from a hundred years ago, and there’s even an Edenic garden. (457 Court St. 718-403-0033.)
