All the Restaurants in New York
“John Donohue is the Rembrandt of New York City’s restaurant facades.”
–Adam Platt, restaurant critic, New York magazine
This is where it all began. All the Restaurants in New York (ABRAMS, 2019) was my first book in this ongoing project — my tribute to the city I call home. It includes 101 hand-drawn restaurants that span boroughs, neighborhoods, and moods. You'll find fine dining institutions like Per Se and Le Bernardin alongside cozy neighborhood spots like Corner Bistro and Junior’s in Brooklyn.
What ties them together is what they mean to people. Each drawing captures not just an exterior, but the memories made inside — from birthdays and proposals to simple Tuesday-night dinners. The book includes a handful of interior sketches, as well as conversations with chefs, owners, and loyal regulars. It’s a visual love letter to New York and the food, people, and stories that make it unlike any other place in the world.
The New York book is currently out of print (beware of expensive forgeries on Amazon), though I do have hopes of bringing it back soon. Fill out the form below to be notified.
