Orders are printed, signed, and shipped in an average of 5 business days (As soon as 2 business days and as long as 8, depending on domestic and other circumstances out of my control). During the holidays, Orders ship on the faster end of the scale.

John Donohue
I am a recovering writer and self-taught artist. A former New Yorker editor and cartoonist, I started drawing restaurants more than a decade ago. I draw by hand in ink on paper, working on-site and from life. I do my drawings in one take, like a jazz record. I don’t make corrections. There is never any AI. What began as a personal side project has grown into All the Restaurants, a global archive of restaurants and the memories they conjure.
I launched this website in New York City on January 1, 2017, inspired by Jason Polan’s Every Person in New York and James Gulliver Hancock’s All the Buildings in New York. At the time, the city was home to over 24,000 restaurants — more than enough to keep anyone busy. My approach is simple: I visit each one and spend 20 minutes drawing its façade, live and unedited. The plan was mathematically ambitious, but I liked that about it. And even though I will never finish drawing every restaurant in the city (openings and closings alone made that impossible), I keep going. I have learned that the process is what matters.
Since then, my drawings have taken me to Paris, London, Napa, Philadelphia, Montreal, Las Vegas, and beyond. This has evolved into a lifelong project. And it's one I plan to continue for as long as I can hold a pen.

The creation of your print is a fine art process and it takes time (see below for details) but each order comes with a digital “gift sheet" that arrives right after purchase and is perfect for printing at home, rolling up, and tying with a ribbon to present as a placeholder gift before the actual signed print arrives.
How Are Packages Shipped?
The short answer is very carefully. The long answer is below.
For Domestic US Orders:
We ship with USPS and UPS.
All orders are processed in about five business days upon payment approval (sometimes two business days, other times as many as eight, depending on my domestic tasks).
Please note: due to our fine art printing process, prints typically take up to two weeks to reach the buyer after an order has been placed (holiday deadlines excepted). We thank you and greatly appreciate your patience during this process.
Why Does It Take So Long?
I’m almost entirely on my own with this project, and I rely on the expertise of a fine art printer to produce and ship the works. We are small businesses and are doing the best we can. We appreciate your understanding.
International Shipping:
International shipping is available for all destinations via UPS & FedEx. We offer both DDP & DDU options at checkout. All available shipping options will be given at checkout.
DDP (Delivery Duties Paid)
If you have chosen a DDP shipping option at checkout, customs duties and import taxes are included in the total at checkout which means you do not have to pay any additional fee to receive your prints. The taxes and duties are calculated by the customs agency of the destination country.
DDU (Delivery Duties Unpaid)
If your destination requires DDU shipping or you have selected that option at checkout, there are duty and import taxes that are not included in the total at checkout. They will be owed by the recipient and are collected at the time of delivery. The taxes and duties are calculated by the customs agency of the destination country and are beyond our control.
If the recipient refuses delivery of their order due to a customs charge, their package will be considered abandoned and disposed of by the shipping carrier and their order will not be eligible for refund. The customer is responsible for paying shipping costs for returning any item(s) unless the item is defective or incorrect. Shipping costs are non-refundable. Once an order ships and is in transit, unfortunately it is not possible to cancel or modify the order.
Returns are rare, but it happens. One or two times, spouses have surprised the other with the same print, or someone wanting one restaurant has suddenly wanted another. If you still have the packaging material, you can mail the print back to me, and I can usually refund you, though there may be a $20 processing fee. Please note customers will be responsible for the shipping cost to return the print they would like to exchange.
If you notice you’ve received an incorrect print or it is defective please contact us. We will be sure to take care of you.
Every order comes with a tracking link that is provided once the print is made and signed.
The artist John Donohue loves to take requests for custom commissions. You can make a request on this form.
It rarely happens, but once in a while a print will arrive bent or damaged. If that happens, I will replace the print right away.
